So you are ready to start your photography business?  You might have some camera equipment and friends and family have deemed you the go to person to take their pictures.  Maybe you haven’t even gotten that serious about it, but you are interested in what it takes to run your own business.  This  seminar is geared for someone just starting out or wanting to start out in the business of photography.  We aren’t going to cover how to work your camera or how to take great pictures, we are going to talk about all the stuff that nobody tells you that you need to know to start a business.

 

A bit about us...My wife Mandy and I are photographers, but we didn’t start out that way…We shoot mainly weddings and families.  While photography has always been a passion for each of us we are not from a traditional photography background.  Mandy has background in physical fitness and social work.  I have a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a Finance concentration from Butler. I have years of experience working in accounting, business production, supply chain management and vendor relations.

 

With my background in business and Engineering it has been easy for me to set up a business entity, pay taxes, file forms and get insurance and understand computers…These are  all things I learned through my business work and schooling.  Everyday we hear from new photographers starting up who want to be professionals, but they just don’t know where to start and what is required.  We also hear about photographers who jump head first into business with a facebook page without knowing the first thing about sales tax. Our goal, through this seminar, is to provide guidance and educate you on what else is involved in running a photography business other than just having nice gear and taking pretty pictures.

  • Website hosting
  • Accounting
  • Editing software
  • Professional grade equipment – from camera’s and flashes to computers
  • Safe management of your files and the importance of backing up your work
